The exhibition will have a detailed time-line exploration of all uses of the site from the time it was enclosed after Boudica’s forces destroyed the town. The mediaeval priory (which gave the site its name); its connection with the Civil War siege of 1648; the Georgian regeneration of the area; family homes on site; the Botanic Garden; the Convent School; the County High School for Girls; and finally the Borough’s home-grown Senior Evening Institute which became the Adult Community College, successfully educating tens of thousands of local people until Essex County Council closed it down and sold the site.
