Colchester County High School for Girls (CCHS) – more material
As part of our on-going “Sharing Heritage” social history project, we are
constantly sorting through material relevant to the Grey Friars site, with a
view to eventually handing it over fully archived, to the Essex Record Office.
You could look through ‘Resources’ or put CCHS into the ‘Search’ facility (both on top menu) to see what we have so far.
But there’s still plenty to record – and here is the place for it – so why not get in touch now?
For example, did your older sisters or mother travel to Grey Friars on a tram? The picture shows a tram approaching Grey Friars from the North Station. They ran from 1904 to 1929.
Or 20 to 40 years later on, perhaps you travelled on one of those wonderful icons of country bus travel (Eastern National, Norfolk’s, Osborne’s, Theobald’s, Chambers’, Hedingham, Went’s, Rule’s or Vine’s etc etc?). Or perhaps you rode on a shiny maroon and cream Corporation bus, the pride of Colchester?
