They all called Grey Friars home

From Roman times (circa AD60 to 400) to the present day this little corner of Colchester has been home to a wide range of people and organisations.

After Boudicca burnt and flattened the town a defensive wall was built and for the first time this space, later to be known as Grey Friars, was enclosed. It has remained an identifiable location to the present day.

Our new article on the variety of occupation of the area can be viewed and downloaded by clicking this title> They all called Grey Friars home

There is now, of course, mixed use varying from living accommodation in houses and flats in the Roman Road and Castle Road areas, to the Quaker Burial ground, to the new hotel www.greyfriarscolchester.co.uk where many people are now coming back to the site to have a quiet coffee, a snack or meal.

THE GELS RETURN! And recently the alumnae association of the Colchester County High School for Girls held their AGM at Grey Friars and achieved their highest attendance in years!
